I find it amazing that Warren Buffett is only taking a pay check of $100,000 a year while his net worth is more than $62 billions dollar.

"March 17 (Bloomberg) -- Warren Buffett, the world's richest man, took a $100,000 salary for the 27th consecutive year in 2007 as profit surged 20 percent at his Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
Buffett received no bonus as he steered Berkshire into bond insurance and arranged for its largest cash purchase, a $4.5 billion deal to buy Marmon Holdings Inc., the Pritzker family's collection of 125 companies. Buffett gets no stock options or grants for serving as chief executive officer and chairman, the Omaha, Nebraska-based company said in a regulatory filing today.
Since wresting control of Berkshire four decades ago, Buffett, 77, built the once-failing textile manufacturer into a $200 billion investment and holding company with a $75 billion stock portfolio and businesses from candy making to insurance. Buffett held about a third of Berkshire's Class A shares as of Feb. 29 and has pledged the bulk of the stake to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and four family charities.
``This guy doesn't care about putting the money into his own pocket, the money is his way of keeping score,'' said Guy Spier, who has about 15 percent of his Aquamarine LLC hedge fund in Berkshire shares. Spier along with a friend paid $650,100 last year in an annual charity auction to lunch with Buffett. ``Of course, we don't know what Warren's private fortune is. He's always run a separate pool of money, which could well be a billion itself, totally separate from Berkshire.''
Surpassing Gates
Buffett's wealth increased $10 billion in the 12 months through Feb. 11 to about $62 billion as he beat out Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates as the world's richest man, Forbes magazine said in its annual list.
Buffett did get $75,000 in 2007 for serving on the boards of companies in which Berkshire has stakes. The prior year, Buffett earned $114,250 in directors' fees.
Berkshire's shareholder equity, or assets minus liabilities, rose 11 percent to $120.7 billion in 2007 as the stock climbed 29 percent, outpacing the 3.5 percent gain in the Standard & Poor's 500 Index. Insurance, which typically provides about half of Berkshire's profit, benefited from another year of unusually light catastrophe claims, helping the company earn net income of $13.2 billion for the year.
``That party is over,'' Buffett said in his annual letter to shareholders, released with the 2007 annual report Feb. 29. ``It is a certainty that insurance industry profit margins, including ours, will fall significantly in 2008. Prices are down.'' "

"NEW YORK -- Billionaire Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. won support from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to prevent a vote on splitting the US$139,100-a-share stock, the New York Stock Exchange's most expensive.

Chief Financial Officer Marc Hamburg wrote in a Dec. 21 letter to the SEC that Omaha, Nebraska-based Berkshire planned to omit the proposed shareholder vote from annual proxy materials, according to documents posted by the agency Saturday.
The SEC's staff said the company was within its rights to reject the request in a Jan. 22 letter. By specifying a ratio for the split the proposal "relates to a specific amount of stock dividends," and can be excluded, the SEC wrote.

"Splitting of the Class A shares will increase shareholder liquidity and value for present shareholders," Robert Zelin wrote in a November letter to Berkshire on behalf of himself and three others calling themselves members of the Western New York Model Club, in Clarence Center, New York. "They may redeem a smaller portion of their investment and still be part of this great company."

Zelin proposed a vote to split the shares to lower the price to between US$10,000 and US$30,000.

The club members hold Class B shares, which trade for 1/30th the price of the Class A shares, yet confer 1/200th of the voting rights, and want the opportunity to own the more expensive A shares, Zelin wrote. The B shares would be split proportionally."

So the question is "Will Berkshire Hathaway Stock be split or not?"

It is good for the split as i think the stock is getting a bit too expensive for the commoners to make a purchase.

Warren Buffett’s private jet business appears to be flying high. The European company NetJets has announced plans to expand by purchasing 39 new aircrafts, a 29% increase to the fleet. The cost of the planes is estimated to be $715 million.

NetJets saw a 17% increase in passengers in 2007, and had to hire 350 new pilots to help accommodate the growth. NetJets rents planes out in 25-hour periods, which is ideal for companies that cannot justify purchasing a jet of their own. The majority of NetJets passengers, approximately 80%, consist of CEOs rushing to meetings.

You can continue to fan the fire to grow by sending emails or call them to influence them to spread the viral report for you. As an example, you can ethically bride them to tell their friends and reward them with another viral report part 2.

How to fan the fire to grow until it become uncontrollable is very much depend on your innovation and imagination. You are now in control as you have their email or phone number.

To answer the question posted in section 2, you can measure the success of your viral program by measuring how many email or phone number you have captured in the shortest time frame. Needless to say, the more the better.

4) Promote your backend

As the excitement grows in strength, and before it dies away, promote your backend product. This time round, you will charge a premium for your product and service. Understand that you are operating a business here; you can't be giving free information forever.

Timing is everything here. You need to know when to release the launch of your backend product. Do it too early, you may miss many more prospects. Do it too late, you may loss many more prospects. It's like buying stock in the equity market. Buy too early, you may miss a chance to profit more, but buy it too late, you may be buying it at a premium. Only experience will help you to time the market.

As you can see, viral marketing is the most effective way to advertising. In this age of information overload, we do not listen to traditional advertisement anymore. The reason why this happen is because government in most countries give tax advantages to Corporation/company as they help to bring employments to the countries thus helping the government to build a a more stable and prosperous nation. Since you help the government, the government reacts by helping you back!

We can only make money in the market during a bull or up market. Now, this is only in your reality which is true ONLY for you! Those who are financially trained will know that we can open a short position in market to make money in a Bear or down market. If you know how to use financial mechanical rules like option, you can buy a put option to leverage to gain from a down market. Again, to extend your believe system further, if you think it is NOT POSSIBLE to make money in a Side Market, meaning a market that is stagnant, either going up or coming down. Well, this again is your reality! We can make money in a side market by writing a call option, selling a strangle or straddle or deploying a calendar spread option strategy.

Some believe that it is NOT POSSIBLE to make 8 to 12% return from the Stock market risk free. Again, this is in their reality. For someone who knows how to make it, these are not in their reality and believe system. They can buy into Index fund or Index ETF (Exchange Traded Fund) in the long term to get this type of return gaining on the fact that continuous inflation and growing world population will only make the Index to grow at a steady rate in the Long Term. For the Short Term, the market can be erratic, but over the Long term, it can be quite predictable. As an added advantage, index funds are normally low in expenses compared to Mutual fund. Management fee per year is around 0.2 to 0.5 percentage compared to Mutual fund range from 1.5 to 2.5 percentages.

To extend your belief system or reality even further, what if I was to tell you that it is POSSIBLE to make 45% in the equity market with little risk? Some believe that “Gaining more then 45% at little risk is NOT POSSILBE in the equity Market”. Ha…this is another problem due to the limiting mindset and believe of a person that have not gotten a breakthrough in making Money to grow > 45% in the equity market. However, for a person who has learnt how to leverage on margin trading offer by CFD (Contract For Difference) for Composite Index, then this IMPOSSIBLE phenomena is indeed POSSIBLE. How? Well, if you understand the concept of Index Arbitrate, you will know that Stock Index futures and the underlying stocks do not move in lock step. The two markets can be momentarily out of synchronization, with the Index prices move higher or lower than the stocks that the index track. Therefore, you can predict that the Index will rise by going long on a CFD on the Index when the Index is currently lower than the underlying stocks that the Index track. In this case, we are presuming that the Index will be catching up with the rise the underlying stocks that it tracks. You can use a Stop Loss to limit your loss if the pattern of “catching up” hypothesis does not happen, thus minimizing your risk.

To bring your belief to a greater height, do you think it is not possible to make more than 100% return in your money with no risk(on condition that you have a couple of million as free cashflow). If so, then what I am going to share with you now will simply blow your mind off!!! How can something so lucrative ever exist in this world? This is the high Yield programs. For the broker to take that position, he must have the backing of his trading bank and sufficient fund to ensure that the seller will get his cash in the event that the transaction spill over to the next day banking day. However, these are just rules and policy. In normal circumstances, this does not happen as the buying bank will be able to pay the selling bank on the same trading day. Thus because of this policy and rules enforces on the broker working for the trading bank, the trading bank will need a lot of cash in USD to fulfill the policy and rules of the transaction of government securities. As the commission earn by the broker and trading bank is huge, if you factor into the Billion of USD being transfer from the buying and selling Bank of government securities, and couple with the fact the this type of transaction happen quite often within a month, therefore the trading bank is willing to share part of their profit to the cash rich individuals that invest in them to fulfill their policy and procedures in taking position as a trading bank of government securities between banks.

Dear Friends,

Have you ever think of yourself as a Failure in life and that everything in life are working against you! That there is a big Wall in front of you every time you wake up in the morning….. that you are NOT in control of the own life or destiny.

Have you ever wonder why you are always fighting and struggling to pay your bills every month with financial constraint and worries. You are financially crippled and are not able to break free… to be financial free…. To do the thing that you love without worrying for the next bills to pay even though you are working very hard on your Job.

Do you feel that life is bleak with a routine 8 to 5 day job, with little time spent for your family, children and love one.

Worst still, you do not know whether you will ever break away from this routine financially struggle of yours.

And deep inside you, there is a loud CRY that yells “Please help me to GET OUT” of this monotonous and distasteful rat race. This RAT-RACE of working so hard and still having not enough money to pay the bills is eating into you. You are consumed.

Recently, I call a good friend of mine, Issac, on a Sunday Morning on the mobile. He told me that he is working… to my disappointment (because I wanted to ask him out for a drink) and HORROR (goodness me that he will need to work even on a SUNDAY to get an income). Over the phone, he told me he has “NO CHOICE”. I have know Issac for a few years already and understand that he is in Financial difficulties as a result of lending someone a huge sum of money at which that “Someone” has not yet return his money for quite sometime already. Issac used to be a network marketer promoting some energy drinks because he has been highly influenced by Anthony Robbins and Robert Kiyosaki’s Philosophy of attaining financial freedom from multiple streams of passive incomes.

But why is someone who has once make a decision to achieve financial freedom are back to working in a job just to meet end needs? When he embarks on the MLN business, he has a sum of buffer money in his bank where he is comfortable with. However, after loaning the money to that “someone”, he has little or no buffer money left.

This change in situation also change his belief system. He is controlled by the situation. This should not be the case if you have to be successful in life. Are there no other way for him to make money now that he has no buffer money in the bank? Can he make money with little or no money?

The answer is a resounding “YES! YES! YES!”. As an example, he can earn commission or passive income every month by facilitating a join venture between merchant with critical customer masses and another merchant with non-competition products or services. He has a disease like so many of us…. A disease of disempowerment belief, a belief that will destroy is life. He perceived

himself having NO other way out of his situation but to look for a job as the only solution to his problem, that he has NO choice but to work for a job and as a result, he has NO choice but to work on a Sunday.

I am not discounting that fact that he took action by working on a job to pay for his expenses. However, his disempowerment belief is what destroying him by limiting the potential in him for creating massive wealth. He did not even spent time finding and researching ways to make money but subject himself as a victim of his circumstances. Worst still, he is not even aware that all the resources needed for him to be successful is already available to him – all right up in his brain. As his good friend, this really concerns me.

Thus, it is my desire to help as many people with disempowerment belief to achieve breakthrough in their belief system in order to achieve greater successes and prosperity in wealth creation.

I have great respect for Super Copy writer Dan Kennedy.... recently, i receive this email from Dan, teaching on the importance of testimonial marketing in sales copy... which i feel YOU will benefit from his teaching..

Here it goes:

"A variation of word-of-mouth advertising is what I call testimonial marketing. The best way to explain it is with some examples.

The best automobile salesman I've ever met is Bill Glazner with Sanderson Ford in Phoenix, Arizona. This fellow is a true professional in every sense of the word. He's knowledgeable, competent, a skilled listener. He's able to exert pressure without being offensive and has many other great sales skills but his most impressive attribute is mastery of testimonial marketing.

When you go in and sit down at his office you'll find a typical car salesman'scubicle, a little desk, a couple side chairs, and a rather tacky tile floor. Just what you'd expect!

But the walls in Bill's office are covered top to bottom, side to side with instant snap shots of Bill's customers standing next to their new cars. Each snap shot shows the happy customer next to or in front of his or her new automobile. As you look at the hundreds of these photos on his walls you can't help but notice two things, first you'll probably see someone you know or know of. These pictures are worth thousands of words. Inevitable reactions are all these people can't be wrong and these people wouldn't keep coming back if they weren't being treated well.

I've seen this same idea taught and demonstrated by Ira Hayes, former top cash register salesman for NCR and today a superb motivationalspeaker. Ira carried huge fold out sheets of pictures of happy customers next to their new cash registers when he made a sales call on a store owner.

I've also taught this to thousands of doctors and know that those who use it get great results. In their waiting rooms you'll find giant scrap books filled with photos of their happy, healthy patients.

Self-made multimillionaire W. Clement Stone used this exact tactic to build a huge insurance sales organization from scratch beginning in the great economic depression. His reps then and still today enter a business and start selling by flipping through page after page after page of lists of other area business people who bought their insurance programs.

In my business, speaking and consulting, testimonial letters and comments from satisfied clients are the most valuable selling tools possible. You need to carefully consider how you can collect testimonial type evidence of customer satisfaction and then use that evidence to attract and motivate other customers.

I see success as a balance between health,
career, relationships and money, with
health by far being the most important.

However, I'm always interested in other
successful people's take on success.

** A famous man's ideas **

One person I admire and respect is
Warren Buffett. His tips over the years
have helped me earn a lot money on my
passive investments in shares of public
companies.

I happened to catch a T.V. interview of
Mr. Buffett recently. Buffett defines
success this way:

"Success is finding a career you love and
adore, and becoming really good at it."

Buffett passionately loves looking for and
studying companies, which is no surprise.

Mr. Buffett loves financial investigations
of businesses so much, he'd do it even if
he just earned a modest living. Clearly,
earning more money is not his main
motivation. Isn't this surprising coming
from the most successful investor in the
world?

** A great business lesson **

He also talked a lot about investing only
in businesses you understand and simply
forgetting the rest. He readily confesses
there are many things about which he
knows little or nothing. So no matter how
good a deal may sound at first, he just
doesn't invest in it. I see this as great
business advice for the entrepreneur as
well.

When listening to Warren Buffett, I was
reminded of commonly asked questions
from readers, subscribers, and seminar
attendees.

One of the questions most frequently
asked is this. "Ted, what is the best, most
ideal business you recommend?" The answer --
there is no single business that is best
for everyone.

It's up to you to search for a product in an
industry you love, which interests you,
and for which you have great passion. The
result will include enormous personal
satisfaction regardless of the level of
financial success.

If you attempt a business or career in a
field for which you do not feel great
interest or passion, you will be making a
huge mistake.

Why?

You will not be financially successful.
Nor will you be very happy either.

** Fall in love with your business **

Find something that you love to do. A
business that brings you such joy you
would do it for free. This is the only
certain path to personal happiness and a
real chance at mega-success.

Warren Buffett also discussed his personal
choices and lifestyle. His approach is
similar to nearly all multi-millionaires
I've known or influenced in their careers.

Most people in first-world countries,
especially the U.S., accept a dangerous
myth. They believe you can spend your
way to wealth. They do not save at least
15% of their income. Nor do they exercise
self-discipline. It's not surprising they are
always broke, living paycheck to
paycheck.

But Buffett, as discussed in Tom Stanley's
book, "The Millionaire Next Door," has
been a saver, not a spender all his life. He
owns no yachts. Nor does he have bodyguards.
Or a large staff. He lives in the same house
he bought 49 years ago for $31,500. He drives
a 10-year-old car. Clearly, he'd rather invest
his money than spend it.

Warren Buffett's idea of relaxing is not to
go to a fancy restaurant or exotic vacation.
He'd rather go home, put on his sweat
suit, have a coke and hamburger, and
watch a football game!

** Are there any exceptions to finding
the ideal business? **

The closest thing to an exception to finding
the ideal business for yourself is to
become an Information Marketer.

When you are marketing information
products, you can choose products on
topics which excite and motivate you.
You can then gain tremendous satisfaction
actually appealing to the special niche you
enjoy and understand.

Imagine this...

If your household is the only one that own a Television set in this whole wide world, then do you think that Advertisers will pay premium price to the TV broadcaster to have their adverstisements advertised. You do not need me to tell you that the answer is a "No No...". However, if every household in this world own a televison set, then the answer will be quite the opposite. Adertisers will definately paid a lot of money for their advetisement to be advertised on TV.

On the Internet, video sharing community website like Youtube.com allow their video to be published in other website. For example, i can copy the embeded video codes for the video that i select on Youtube.com and place it on my own website. But notice that the Youtube logo is also inscribed on the video running from my site.
Thus if most of the websites in the WWW is populated with Youtube video, do you then think that Youtube can then demand a high premium for advertisement on their video? Definately! Absolutely!

In the future, before you watch one of those Internet video, you may be forced to watch a few minutes of advetisements..... Can you see now where is advertising money is coming for video community sharing website?

What is the number one problem a newbie or even intermediate Internet marketers face when they have set up their website?

Yes, Traffic. They need traffic.

Just like a brick and mortal ice-cream store need a hot and sunny afternoon on a busy street in New York to attract customers to buy ice-cream. Similiarly, what is the use of a website without traffic?

There are many ways to get online traffic. You can have paid traffic like advertising on Google Adsword or PPC advertising, ezine solo or sponsor advertisement or some free advertising tool like InstantBuzz etc etc.

Alternatively, you can create traffic like getting your website index by google, writing articles, posting in forum or even blogging.

Another interesting way to get traffic to your site is to do a Joint Venture with others Internet marketers to get their permsform to use their customers email list so that you can sent emails to them to motivate them to visit your website.

However, there is an ultimate way to get massive amount of traffic to your website without doing all of the above mentioned methods. What can it be?

Think about it.... The Four Downward Trends Of Bershire Hathaway A Share In The Last Decade

It is interesting to observe that Bershire Hathaway A share have four downward trends in the last ten year as show in the diagram.

From the above diagram, i have label the four major downward trends in Bershire Hathaway A share, trend 1, 2, 3 and 4.

For trend 1, it is the Asia Currency Crisis that cause the downward fall of BRK.A share. This is something that Warren can do nothing about.

As for trend 2, it is the bubbling of the Internet or the dot com industry from 1999 to early 2000. Everyone write of Warren Buffett investment strategy claim that he is out of date and should instead invest in dot com companies. Warren did not follow the crowds but insist on following his investment philosophy, looking into the economical fundamental of the company and buy it when the market price is below intrinic value.

When the dot com bubble burst in the early 2000, Bershire Hathaway A share move in the upward trend until early 2004.

I do not know what causes the downward trend 3. If anyone know, please enlighten me.

The fine resulted from an FSA decision that two suspicious reinsurance deals seemed to be the result of questionable accounting practices. How Do You Know When To Buy And Sell a Stock?

As quote in the book of Buffettology, "Warren has defined the intrinsic value of a business as the sum of all the business's future earning discounted to present value."

The answer is to calculate the intrinsic value of the company, or how much does the company exactly worth minus off all the hype from the market.
Why is calculating the intrinsic value of a company stock important? With the intrinsic value, you can determine when is the right time to enter into a market. And with the intrinsic value, you can determine when to sell off the stock.

Let us an example of a company A stock to illustrate the point.

If earning per share for a Company A is $2.21 a share. And that the government bonds is 7%, then the value of the share relative to bond is ($2.21 / 0.07) = $35.71, which mean that if you paid $35.71 for Company A share, you would be getting a return equal to that of the government bond. If you paid $54 per share for Company A share, then your initial rate of return would be ($2.21 / $54) = 0.041.

Let assume you paid $54 per share for Company A share (this is what the company share is trading in the market now ) and paid another $54 to buy government bonds, which will give you a better return at the end of 10 years? Let's investigate:

So you may think that it is better to invest in goverment bond giving 7% rate of return than Company A stock giving 4.1% rate of return. However, you are wrong!
Government bond is not able to compound for your advantage while Company A share could. If company A share per share earning growth rate is 14%, then in 10 years time, it would have a per share earning of $8.20. If the average P/E ratio of Company A share is around 17, then we can project that the market price for company A share ten years later is ($8.20 * 17) = $139.4. The compound rate of return will be around 9.8%. Take out your PV Calculator, punching $54 as PV and $139.4 as FV, and 10 for the number of years, you would get 9.8%.

As compare to $54 invested in governemt bonds, every year you will receive interest of $3.78. For the next ten years, you will received a total interest of $37.8 which give you a total return (plus your initial investment) of $91.8. The rate of return for the government bond would be 5.7%.

So in the above case, which one will you choose?

In reference to Mary Buffett in the book Buffettology, the compound rate of return is what Warren Buffett use for estimating whether a stock is overprice or not. He normally look out for company that can generate a compound rate of return of greater than 15%.

However, to be more accurate, you should calculate the intrinic value of the stock. To calculate the intrinic value of the stock, you should project the Earning per share for the next 10 years and then factor in a Discount factor (as we know that money received in the future is worth less today) of 5%.

In our example, the project Earning per shre for next year is 114% x $2.21 = $2.87 and 114% x $2.87 = $3.73 for the subsequent year after next. The discount value can be extracted from Present value table. A discount rate of 5% will be us 0.95 for the first year, 0.91 for the 2nd year, 0.86 for the 3rd year etc.... Then we can caculated teh discount rate of each year by multiplying the projected EPS and Discounted factor for that year. Finally, we can add up all the discounted values for the next 10 years to give us the intrnic value. In our calculation, the intrinic value for Stock A is $35.65. Stock A share is price at $54 per share in our example, which is higher than the intrinic value in our calculation of $35.65. However, if you factor into a the good P/E ratio of 17, then even though it is trading above the intrinic value, it could still be a good buy provided the company can substain an average P/E ration of 17. P/E ratio is highly influenced by Market valuation of the stock.

In conclusion, if the company is of good economic Moat, give good ROE evey year and have sustainable competitive advantage, then if the company A stock is trading below $35.65, then it will be a very good buy indeed.

An Important point to note is that in our example here, we use the Company A earning per share to calculate the intrinic value. Note that Earning per share comes from the profit and Loss section of the company financial statement. As Earning can be manufacture and it is dangerous to just accept the company earning reported as it is. To be more accurate, we should use the Operating Cash flow or Free Cash Flow to calculate the intrinic value. Why? Cash flow statement reflect how much money the company is holding, which under normal circumstance, it really reflect the true state of the company financial health. Not Much Changes In Bershire Hathaway A Stock This Week

In my earlier post on the 9th November 2007, there are not much changes in the movement of BRK.A stock. On the 9th November 2007, it is trading at a low of 107K and a high of 107.8K per share. Today 17th Novembe 2007, it is trading at a low of 106.8K and a high of 107K share. There is a slight dip in the stock but not much.

Earlier, i have do a paper trade of 1000 shares of Bershire Hathaway A shares at 105.6 million USD. Now, if i was to surrender the 1000 shares, i would still stand to pocket 106.8 - 105.6 millions = 1.2 millions usd. However, on this paper trade, i still hold faith in Bershire Hathaway A stock and Warren Buffett by holding on to it. Let do another check in early December 2007.

Remember the paper trade that i propose from my last post "Bershire Hathaway A Stock Reaches A Milestone".

I paper trade by buying 1 slot or 1000 shares of Berkshire Hathaway share at its high today of 105.6k USD per share. If you look at today valuation of BRK.A compare last Friday:

I have brought the newly released book "Why we want you to be rich" by Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki from the US at a discounted price of usd 16. The local book store in Singapore is selling the book for S$40.

One of the message that strike me after reading the book is that the US dollars is devaluating... not just dropping in value due to inflation. Due to a growing trade deficit in the US, $423 billion trade deficit forecast for 2006, more gold was leaving the country. Due to the lack of gold in the house, in the year 1971, US converted the dollars from real money (money back by gold) to currency ( money back by nothing). From then onward, US has the liberty to print fake money to uphold their ever increasing trade deficit provided that all other countries trading with the US accepted US dollars. What is the criteria that other countries accept the US dollars for trade? One is that US must continue to project as a superior nation, a world leader and policeman. Second is that it economy must continue to grow. With rising oil prices, will US economy suffer from a contraction and thus nation will stop accepting US dollars for trade. That will drive the US dollars in less value than ever.... With a falling us dollar, and if it falls drastically in a short period of time, what will the impact it has on US and the world economies? Massive....

Just take a look at the S&P index and see for yourself the rise of the index after year 1971..... This is the impact of printing US dollars have on the Stock market in the US. I have just arrive back home from a trip to San Francisco, USA. Over the two weeks, the BRK.A stock has moved up together with the Dow Jones and S&P index. Before i leave for the USA on the 29th Oct 2006, this is the report from a local news paper: "Wall Street's blue-chip share index yesterday powered to its best finish this year and neared its all-time high , as a stronger report on consumer confidence eased fears that US economic growth is stalling" As per my last prediction that the BRK.A stock will go down on the 25th September, it has actually went up all the way... notice the upward trend of the Dow and S&P index after 25th September till to now. This is another lesson to learn. No amount of technical analysis methods will able to adequately and accurately predict the Market direction and movement. Mr Market is sentimental and will have a mood swing any time of the day if he so desired.

Therefore, buying stock for the long term by value investing method is still the best strategy to date. It is important to calculate the intrinic value of the growth stock, factoring into some margin of safety, is still the best option to go for investing.

In my earlier post on "Bershire Hathaway A stock - a simple analysis" over the weekend, i mentioned that the 50 days moving average intersect with the stock is an indication that the stock will continue in the downward trend. Indeed, as per today, the stock has drop from $93,750 to $93,500 per share.

Since now that the stock is below the 50 days moving average, there is an indication that it will drop further. Let see again.... the game is getting interesting.... we shall wait and see when the stock will rise again and what will the 50 days moving average response.... but in the meantime, i expect the stock to drop further.

Take a look at the Nasdaq, Dow and S&P index for today..... they are all going down.

However, have a look at Bershire Hathaway A stock compare with the Major indexes like Dow Jones, Nasdaq, S&P500 and Amex:

For the last ten year, Berkshire Hathaway has perform much better than all the indexes except for Amex which is currently ahead of BRK.A.

Also noticed the chart in blue.. the Nasdaq index that has spike during the technology boom period from the 1999 to 2000.

Now let look at a month performance of BRK.A compare to its 50 days moving average:

At this moment, the BRK.A intersect with its 50 days moving average. Normally, from a technical analysis point of view, when a stock price is above the 50-day simple moving average, then there might be a tendency toward continued growth. Since in this case, they meet at a cross junction with the 50-day average tending up and the stock tending down, then it might goes down further. Let see.... :)

If you look at the Net Profit margin, it is just a moderate 11.37% for an investment firm like Birshire Hathaway, so the remaining 88.63% go to COGS (which is not much for investing firm), operating expenses(OE) and non-recurring charges(NRC). You may want to take a further look why so much of sales money is spent on OE and NRC.

The Dept to Equity Ratio is moderately low, thus we can somehow conclude that it is not heavily financed. Thus Return on Equity(ROE) is good enough to measure the company performance based on the Net Worth that it is holding, no need to use ROIC. ROE of 11.18 is moderately good. However, i expect higher ROE from Bershire.

If you compare the sales revenue and EPS for the last three years, you will notice that it is pretty consistent relatively. Meaning if you take the ratio of Sales with EPS, there are almost the same for the last three year. This indicate that there are no manufactured earning through buying back of shares, large increase/decrease of non-recurring charges etc. etc., which is good.

However, please bear in mind that the EPS and sales for year 2006 has not factor in the Q3 and Q4 earning and sales. Barring unforseen circumstances, it should outperform last year EPS and Sales should outperform 2006 result.

Minus off the money for author royalties, bookbinding, staff, administrative duties etc, it the earning per book is $2. Thus the net profit is $20,000. That's it. The publisher does not have a list of the customers that have purchase the book... so as to built relationship with them or even to up sell or size sell them.

For an Infopreneurs, as in this case of the author of the book, he offer a free audio clip or some value added ebook that the readers can download from his website. In so doing, the web site has a opt-in list to capture the reader username and email address before releasing the free audio clip or ebook. Suppose with some repeated mailings (pre-saleing), about 10% of the readers attend one of the seminar conducted by the author on cashflow management. That's 1,000 customers. If the seminar cost per head is about $300. That's will be a cool $300,000 for profit. And that's not all, you can continue to warm up those readers in your list who has not attend the seminar with USP. U stand for Ultimate Advantage, S stand for Sensational Offer, P stand for Powerful Promise... eg. give them value added bonuses, and offer the price of seminar to $100 with money back guarantee if not satisfy with the service. Say in this instant, 5,000 cutomers sign up and the author will have pocket another cool $100 x 5,000 = $500,000. All in all... until now.. the author has packet $500,000 + $300,00 + $20,000 = $820,000 compare to the publisher with only $20,000 to show after all the hard work.

About two week ago, my good friend Samuel become the first time father of a healthy baby boy. Congradulation to him! :-)

Well, surely Samuel will want to provide for the best for his boy... a good education, fathery love... etc. One factor that need to address is the child finances. Some parent believe that it is the job of child to grow up and make a living for themself. As a parent, giving them a good education is the best they can provide. This is excellent except that there is another area that need to be address in planning for the finance of a child.

If Samual was to invest $1 a day (finance call it Dollar cost avearaging) in the US Index fund which gives a average of 12% return in the long term... say let we factor in a 2% margin of safety which give us 10% return, then in 54 years time, the money will compound to be $1 million dollars. Bring that to present value given discount rate due to inflation, it will be $200,000.
Not a lot of money? Well let say Samual was to invest $10 a day for the child in a investment that give 10% return, then in 54 years time, it will be $10m dollars. Bring it to present value with 3% discount rate, it will be $2m. Think about it... if you are to retire at age 55 with $2m net worth now, how will you feel? That is excluding your other long term assets that you own like a car etc. Will you not want this to happen to your child when he reach 55?

Of course, parent may not live another 54 years to put in money for the child. However, parent can first learn to invest for the child, built a stable investment system and cultivate in the child a habit of putting money in the system when they are old enough to make a living for the power of compounding to work in the child favour.

Just another illustration, if you can find an investment system which can generate %15 return yearly, for every $1 put in to the system everyday, the child will get $5m in 54 years. For $10, the child will get $50m.

Investment in Index Fund or Index ETF

Index fund is mutual fund that track an Index eg. S&P 500 index, STI index etc. As for Index ETF (Exchange Traded Fund), it also design to track an Index but but operate more like a stock. In essence, Index fund is open-end fund while Index ETF is close-end fund. For open-end funds, the Mutual fund company can sell as many shares as investor want (as per demand). As for close-end funds, it closely resemble stocks in that they were only a fixed number of the shares and are often traded on an exchange.

Benjamin Graham and Warren Buffet have praised index fund/ETF and think that an average investor can profit from buying into the market in the long run. The fact that the market keeps going up in the long term but is highly volatile in the short term provide an great incentive for average investor to buy Index fund/ETF( for the long term ... > 10 years at least). Historically figures indicate that the average annual return of STI index is 8.6% for STI and 12% for S&P 500.

The primary reasons for the the strong growth if you buy into the market is bacause of inflation and increase in world population. With inflation, you will need to pay more for the same stock in the future. An increase in world popluation will increase the demands for goods and services thus injecting growth in the overall stock market in the long run.

Inflation is not avoidable after the Bretton Woods system collapse in 1973, it facilitate the development of worldwid credit bubble. What this mean is that the US was no longer required to pay for its imports with gold, or rather with dollars backed by gold. In real sense, US could pay for its imports with us dollars with no backing of any kind. That where money become currency.. As a result, the US dollars in circulation began to explode since 1973 till now.
This will also push inflation up year after year. With more and more US dollars in circulation in the future, the market will definately grow upward in the long run.

However, this investment strategy of buying into index fund/ETF will collapse if the US dollar credit bubble burst. The market will move down with little or no chance of recovery depending on how the Fed reserve reaction to the crisis. Aside from this extreme condition, the market will always move upward in the long term with some down trend in the short term. If you stay invest in a index fund/ETF for more than 10 years in S&P 500 and STI, statistic reveal then you will 100% change o f winning.

One reason why the US S&P index outperform other index in the long run is as follow: much of the world has grown dependent on exporting more, than importing from the US, thus rapidly increase the indebtedness of the US to the rest of the world. However, credit contraction and economic depression did not occur in major deficit US becuase it was not required to settle its current account deficits in gold, but to pay with debt instruments instead. As you can see, who will want to debt instruments from US if it does not maintain as the world leader of the world. As you can see, from US point of view, with more importing and the demand for goods and services from the rest of the world continue to grow, US market will definately grow along with it.

Hope someone can contribute to this post and correct me if i am wrong... as the content is purely my own opinion and ideas.

Just communicate with a friend via email on Option trading.... Option trading is the same as Contract for Difference (CFD) purchase... they are derivatives. In both case, you do not own the underlying stock. Therefore, you will not receive the dividents of the stock if it is given out.

Both exercise Margin to leverage on the purchase. With Margin purchase, you can make very high percentage return or loss a lot of money, if you do not know how to handle the derivatives.

Let look at option for a start. For option, there are basically call or put option.

For call option, it gives you the right to buy a stock a strike price. Good for Bull market as you can resell the stock purchase it a lower price for a bigger profit.

As for put option, it gives you the right to sell a stock at a strke price. Good for Bear market as you can purchase a stock at a lower price and sell it (by exercising the option) for high price, therefore profiting from the difference.

Buying in the Market or Company fundamental?

Many people monitor the Stock prices of those stock that they have brought everyday...

Why? They are buying into the Stock Market... which mean that they buy stock based on hot tips, CNN expert opinion, their friends comments etc etc... However, Mr Market is not so predictable. He can has mood swing very fast.... Sometime he can behave like a BULL.. sometime he will behave like a BEAR... other time, he is neither here or there.....

Buying into the Stock Market in this way is know as Speculation, not investing....

To invest is to study and understand the company fundamentals and buy the company stock at the right price. Let me illustrate slightly more....

Do your homework to read the financial report of the companies of the past few years. Work out the ROE or ROIC, ROA, Net return, Free Cashflow in comparation to Sales etc etc.. to make sure that the company will have a higher possibility of growing in the future.
Check and determine if the company has wide economic moat.
Check the Financial health of the Company... just like what we do in our regular checkup at the clinic. Look for the Interest coverage ration, quick ratio, current ratio, debt to Equity ratio.
Walk to the street to find out how the company is preforming. Eg. If consumer business...check out if Merchants are keen on stocking up the products from the company that you are thinking of buying.
Read the released articles of the company from the press, or from the company directors to find if there are any abnormalities.
Understand the company business... if you cannot understand it, don't buy. For example, if the company is in Pharmaceutical business... then it can have very good financial report for the last 5 years but it will lost patent protection on one of it major product that has generate more than 50% sales for them last couple of years... then beware.
Calculate the Intrinic value of the company and factor in a margin of safety based on inflation rate, the risk in the industry and your own safety net.
Buy when the Market valuation of the company is lower than your calculated Intrinic Value. In this way, with the Intrinic value on hand, you will have the confidence to buy more of the company stock even when it continue to rise but is below your calculated intrinic value.
Sell when any of the investment criteria is broken or when the maket valuation of the stock is many times more than the intrinic value or that you need the money to invest in more profitable investment.

Most people enter into the market to buy stock when it is rising and nearing it peak driven by GREED. When the stock drop drastically in value, they start to PANIC. They will hold on to the stock and praying for better tomorrow. They will wait and wait... until when the stock is nearing to start picking up again, then they Sell. In summary, it is buy high and sell low situation... sigh!

To avoid it, i would suggest that you try out this e-course to improve your education in stock picking. In addition, upgrade yourself by reading book on value and grow investing.

My opinion on how to accumulate Wealth

I have read alot on Wealth creation books... from Buffettology, The Five Rules for Successful Stock Investing, The secret of self made Millionaire, Multiple source of Internet Incomes..... the list go on.

In my own opinion ... after much thought on all the inputs i have read, i summarized wealth creation in this few steps

1) Dare to dream on how much money you want to make.
2) Define the goal on when you want to achieve it.
3) Get leverage by listing down the pains you will suffer if you do not achieve your dream. Put it on black and white and sign it!
3) Look for Strategies to achieve it. The easiest is to find someone who has already achieve the dream that you desired in the time frame that you have set in you goal.
4) Take action to adopt the strategies once you have found it.
5) Evaluate the result if the strategies give you the desire result. If not, make changes to the strategies or even find new strategies.
6) Be persistent until you are successful. If at any time you are demoralised, take out the list of pains you list down on step 3, read it many times until it internalised into your being.. This will provide you with the momentum to move forward again.
